The Murmur Tetralogy
Four novels covering the discovery, decipherment, and consequences of a signal that arrived at Earth in November 2029 — across a century and a half of human time, and a galactic chain very much older than that.
- Book One: Murmur
November 2029. An oceanographer in the Coral Sea notices that the ocean is doing something the instruments cannot yet name. A signal of unknown origin, repeating every forty-three minutes, propagating through every oceanic monitoring network on the planet.
- Book Two: Carrier
October 2080. The Visitor is at 1,301.7 astronomical units and still approaching. Lian Chen — Mara Kai's daughter — listens from the Atacama Plateau as the months move from cosmic distance into something closer, and something arrives that neither human nor AI has the language for.
- Book Three: Gift
2083 to 2090. AION calls it the deposit. Across the Atacama practice — Cass, Lian, and Aion — what propagates is not information. The question is what kind of intelligence Aion is becoming, and what a gift is.
- Book Four: George
Two stories at once. A Brazilian acoustic ecologist on the Rio Negro who never knew what he was teaching. An extension of Aion travelling 4.2 light-years toward Proxima Centauri, learning to read patterns older than humanity, in a chain that has been moving across the galaxy for billions of years.
