Early life

Born 4 September 1954 in Vejle, Denmark.

Family

My beautiful partner Julia, and three wonderful children: Michaela, Miles, and William.

Education

Graduated as a geologist from Macquarie University in 1979.

Professional life

More than forty years in IT, in roles spanning software engineering, solution architecture, project management, and chief information officer. More recently, managing several astronomical observatories in New South Wales and supporting others in Western Australia, Queensland, the Northern Territory, France, Mongolia, and Réunion Island. And, when not busy with the observatories or writing science fiction, still developing new software systems for astronomical use.

What drives me

The love of family and friends. The pursuit of excellence. Exploring new and novel ideas. Getting a sense of my place in a very large universe. And not forgetting a really great single malt whisky — like The Macallan 15-year-old.
