Why I write
The desire to write has been with me for many years, the stories started to become real three years ago. They are not about heroes. They are about the careful work of meeting something that does not fit the world you thought you understood: a 419-million-year-old object, a forty-three-minute signal, a light at the front of a chapel that returns night after night.
Searching for new ideas
While I am busy completing the AstroVia software suite, I am also exploring other comedic speculative fiction. Contamination was a lot of fun – blending Adams and Lem story strategies – and I now have a list of twenty way-out ideas. The hard part is working out which one is the next opportunity worth tackling.
What drives me
The love of family and friends. The pursuit of excellence. Exploring new and novel ideas. Getting a sense of my place in a very large universe. The music that has lived with me for decades — particularly Black Sabbath's Master of Reality, which sits quietly inside Solitude. And not forgetting: a really great single malt whisky like The Macallan 15-year-old.
